Sound healing is not a new idea or fad. It is an ancient practice that has been used to increase wellness for centuries and its origins can be traced through to communities across Egypt, India, Tibet and China.
Sound creates vibrations that can affect and slow down our brain waves, resonate with internal vibrational frequencies within our own body and put us in a general state of calm. It is at these slower brain waves (alpha, theta and delta waves) where our brain enters a relaxed, meditative state and real transformation can occur.
A variety of instruments can be used during a sound healing session or meditation sound bath. I tend to favour gongs as they are incredibly powerful and grounding, but I also use crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, chimes and a shruti box. I sometimes incorporate tuning forks and drums in one-on-one sessions depending on the focus of the session.
There is growing evidence to suggest sound healing can help with the following:
Sound benefits everyone and its effect can last for days or even weeks! It is a great way to address specific issues in your life, but is equally beneficial for general all-round wellbeing and self-care.
Please note that sound healing is not suitable for people with sound induced epilepsy or during the first trimester of pregnancy.
